Our city council has become detached from the true heartbeat of our city. In my effort to meet our citizens at their homes and in their neighborhoods, it has become clear to me just how imposing and intimidating interacting with city leaders has become for the majority of our residents.
Our campaign has worked to break down those barriers and build personal relationships with citizens. That face-to-face interaction empowers all residents to become active and outspoken leaders in their community. Through our efforts we have already seen significant boosts in attendance and citizen response to our campaign outreach events as well as increased voter turnout.
At the same time our outreach is building a true representation of the needs and views of our residents. I don’t guess what is best for our city, I hear it every day straight from our citizens. The next step is bringing that style of representation to our city government. Our mayor must truly be a public servant who humbles himself to the task of leading our city. Only then can we have a council and a mayor who truly represent our Burlington.
